Obesity has many effects in pregnancy. It may cause physical, medical, and psychological problems in pregnancy. Most pregnant women complain of back pain, and pain on joints or articulations because of their weight; they have poor endurance which means that pregnant women get tired easily even with simple tasks. Obesity is the major cause of hypertension and high blood sugar in pregnancy (gestational diabetes) which may cause many complications for the mother and the baby including cesarean delivery. Obesity is also one of the reasons that cause depression in pregnant women.
Programs for pregnant women such as aerobic exercises and machine work-outs like treadmill and bicycle specially designed for them are very much beneficial in coping with these problems. Special programs are created to prepare the pregnant women for delivery physically and emotionally. Aerobic exercises and machine work-outs makes our body fit, improves good blood circulation, strengthens muscles, stabilizes or maintains the weight and sometimes even loses weight, corrects poor body posture, improves cardiovascular endurance, and minimizes problems like back and joint or articulation pains. These programs also motivate pregnant women and make them enjoy their pregnancy.
The program includes yoga, breathing exercises, relaxation, massage, aerobic exercises (muscle strengthening and gentle stretching specially designed for pregnancy), machine work-outs, childbirth preparation (pushing techniques), lectures, and treatment of low back pain, heavy or edematous leg, and other present pregnancy related problems. All pregnant women who are fit to make the exercises are very much welcome to participate in this special program. Each trimester or stage of pregnancy has different type of exercises, so we divide the classes according to pregnancy trimesters. All pregnant women with the same trimesters are grouped together at the maximum of three each class. Specially trained physiotherapists are conducting this program.
Most patients with chronic pain problems have been through various unsuccessful types of treatments. Up to 80% of the same patients worldwide report that Shockwave therapy has helped them eliminate their problem.
There may be a slight feeling of discomfort during the treatment, depending on the level of pain the patient is already experiencing in the area. However, since the treatment lasts only about five minutes, most patients are able to tolerate this discomfort. Additionally, the intensity of the treatment can be adjusted throughout the session.
The number of treatments varies depending on the indication and tissue response. The effect of the treatment is cumulative, so you will typically need more than one (3–5) treatment. Very often though, you will experience relief right after the first treatment.
Most indications require 3–5 treatments which are done 3–10 days apart, depending on the patient’s tolerance and their tissue response.
Most patients will experience an immediate pain relief following the treatment. However, within 2–4 hours after the treatment, they may experience some soreness in the treated area. This soreness has been reported as tolerable and not limiting.
It is recommended that patients refrain from physical activity, especially one that would involve the treated region, for about 48 hours following each treatment session.
